Fun Things to Do in Barcelona for Solo Travelers

Explore Gaudí’s Iconic Architecture
This should be at the top of anyone’s Barcelona adventure regardless of whether you’re going solo or not! Antoni Gaudí is a famous Spanish architect with incredible creations all over the city. There’s no doubt you’ll hear his name when you’re there. Ever heard of Sagrada Familia (that gorgeous church)? Yup, that’s all him!
Gaudí’s unique artitectural designs are famous all over the world and one of the top destinations in Barcelona. From Casa Batlo to Park Güell (think Cheetah Girls) the entire city is impacted by his work. His modernisme architecture is not to be missed on your solo trip to Barcelona.
Make sure to book these tickets in advance, because it gets very busy especially in the summer!
IMPORTANT: Buy directly from the Barcelona Tourism board (links below) to ensure that you’re getting real tickets for a reasonable price!
Take a Tapas & Wine Tour
When you’re solo traveling it can be intimidating to eat alone or you may not know where the best bites are. A really fun thing to do in Barcelona for solo travelers is a tapas and wine tour which will take you around the city to taste some of the best that Barcelona has to offer.
While planning your trip you’ll get a million restaurant recommendations from friends, family, TikTok, and probably me too! However, an authentic guide from a local can help acquaint you with authentic Catalan cuisine.
Day at the Beach
Of course a trip to Barcelona isn’t complete without a day at the beach. Even though I am of the opinion that Spain has much better beaches (see Mallorca) than Barceloneta, it’s still worth visiting the beach for a few hours to see what the hype is all about.
Barceloneta beach is great to grab a drink, read a book or people watch. If that’s too boring for you, consider a Panoramic View of Barcelona Sunset Sailing Tour.

Visit the Picasso Museum + See More Art
If you can’t get enough of Gaudí’s art and want to see more, one of the other fun things to do in Barcelona for solo travelers is to visit the Picasso Museum and the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (aka MNAC). I find art museums to be the perfect solo traveler experience because you can move at your own pace and ensure that you can see everything you want to see.
Below are links for tickets to the Museum and the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, Joan Miró Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, and the Picasso Museum directly from the Barcelona Tourism Board!
Day Trip to Monserrat
Another core Barcelona memory was a day trip to Monserrat, which had some great views. Monserrat means “serrated mountain”, which is just outside of the city and super easy to get. Once at the mountain you’ll take in the beautiful views, visit the monastery, and see the Virgin of Monserrat aka Black Madonna.
This is another tour that’s super important to book in advance!
Wander around Las Ramblas & the Gothic Quarter
Everyone will tell you to wander around Las Ramblas and you absolutely should! Las Ramblas is right by the Gothic Quarter and here you can see street performers or do some shopping for your friends and family at home. There are tours available for this, however I do think one of the more fun things to do in Barcelona is to wander around this area and see the sights and try out the random restaurants.
See a Flamenco Show at Palau Dalmases
Spanish Flamenco began in the south of Spain, however if you aren’t planning to travel to Andalusia, you should still add a Flamenco show to your list of things to do. Below are a few options for Flamenco shows at varying prices. Palau Dalmases has one of the prettiest venues and is highly recommended.
Be sure to book this one well in advance!
Cooking Class with Guided Tour of Boqueria

One of my favorite things to do when I travel is a cooking class. This Barcelona Cooking Class & Boqueria tour is a cool mix of walking around the famous Boqueria food market and learning how to make traditional Spanish food. From paella to various tapas meals, you’ll learn how to make Spanish cuisine that’s so good you’ll want to make it back at home!

See the Sunset at Bunkers del Carmel
A free option is visiting the Bunkers del Carmel at sunset. These bunkers were built during the Spanish Civil War and were used as a way to see the entire city. The bunkers were upgraded for tourists and now are available for everyone to see the entire city at once. It’s an amazing view, particularly at sunset that shouldn’t be missed during your trip to Barcelona.

Spa Day at Aire de Barcelona
One of the most fun things to do in Barcelona for solo travelers is to visit the Aire Ancient Baths. Andalusia, the south of Spain, has a ton of authentic ancient baths, however if you’re visiting Barcelona this is a really great option. Ancient baths are essentially spas, where you’ll find pools of different temperatures to enjoy or you can add on one of their numerous massage options.
This would be great to add on to your trip if you’re looking to relax from all of the walking you’ll be doing.

Bike Tour of Montjuic
If you want to join a group, consider a Bike Tour of Montjuic which will also allow for great views of the harbor and the city. During this tour you’ll likely get a view of the 17th century Montjuïc Castle, the Palau Nacional, the Olympic Stadium, several museums, manicured gardens, ornate statues and fountains.

Day Trip to Sitges
During my travels I also enjoy traveling to other cities outside of my main city. That’s why visiting Sitges would be one of the most fun things to do in Barcelona for a solo traveler (well technically outside of Barcleona). Sitges is a small coastal town with an entirely different vibe from Barcelona. This town is tiny but somehow has 17 beaches. If you’re looking for a fun day trip, Sitges is a great choice.
Tour the Football Stadium
One of my favorite memories and one of the most fun things to do in Barcelona is take a visit to the Barça Stadium. I’m not even a fan of football, but this is one of the coolest stadiums that I’ve been been to. They’ve created a museum that shows the history of the team and has all of their championship awards on display.
As of April 2025, you’ll see things about Barça Stadium / Camp Nou under renovations, however the museum is still open and you’ll actually be able to see the process of the stadium renovations.

Visit the Laberint d’Horta
This activity is located just outside of the city and is one of the few places on this list that I have not traveled to yet. It’s the oldest garden in the city and also includes a maze that would be fun to get lost in. Enjoy the beauty of the garden and pose for some insta-worthy shots here at the Laberint d’Horta.
Tour the Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau
I visited this museum with my school and was shocked by how much I actually enjoyed it. It’s a an old hospital that was beautifully designed by the Catalan architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Visiting a “flipped” hospital may not sound like one of the most fun things to do in Barcelona, but I assure you this is worth it.
It no longer operates as a hospital but it is now a World Heritage site and an opportunity for everyone to marvel at its beauty. This site is also used to hosts different organizations related to sustainability, health are and more. There’s meeting rooms, event halls, and more.
